SH!T BAG

My debut YA novel - SH!T BAG.

SH!T BAG is a dark humour, disability-positive YA about a feisty, sporty, sixteen-year-old girl called Freya who wakes up in hospital with a poo bag (aka an ileostomy) and has to learn to live with it and her new nickname Sh!t Bag.

Based on my own experiences juggling bowel surgeries and life-with-an-ostomy, while studying and dating as a teenager, SH!T BAG openly and humorously discusses the last taboo of poo (bags), while representing teens living with them as being attractive, desirable and even sporty. Ostomies aren’t ‘dirty little secrets’. They’re life-saving, life enhancing and liberating, and sometimes they simply provide hilarity when things blow up, blow off and turn to sh!t.

Pack your bags and join Freya on this sh!tty ride.

Ears on fire, not pants.

"It is a daring topic to bring to the forefront of a young adult novel, and, with its content, the book carries a wonderfully dark sense of humour, sharing intimate details around the journey of dealing with a hidden disability and the taboo that comes with it, typified by the words of cruel teenagers. It is representation that is sorely missing in media today and can open up discussions between friends and family about bowel disease" THE LANCET
